Ethiopia 2015 Itinerary
This itinerary may vary slightly depending on local conditions. A full day-by-day itinerary is sent to all participants after acceptance of their application. The Program will run subject to minimum numbers and will have a maximum of 15 participants.
Proposed Itinerary for Ethiopia 2015
Week 1:
Arrive in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Settle into Hotel and begin orientation. Graham Romanes leads us in understanding Ethiopia’s history and context as Susan Black leads us into the community development journey understanding the technology of the poor following the stories of the people Introduction to the Ethiopian team and culture. Short visits to local projects and briefings including the history of Ethiopia as the home of coffee and the impact of trade on the nation Briefing from Tadesse Mekele Director of Oromia Coffee Farmer’s Co-operative Union
Week 2:
Fly to Mekele, capital of Tigray and home to REST. Briefing on the work of REST and the desert context in which people live and work. Break into small teams and depart for rural projects.
Visits with local projects and communities Regroup in Hawzien for debriefing and for the final session to build a holistic understanding of a people-centred approach and explore how to apply our experience on our return home. Here we will also have our closing ceremony for the formal part of the program.
Participants have the choice of returning to Addis Ababa or continue their Ethiopian travels from here.
We can assist in organising additional travel to expereince the rich history and culture of Ethiopia: visiting Axum to see UNESCO world heritage listed sites of stelae, palaces and tombs; Gondar and the palace; Bahir Dar to enjoy Lake Tana Monasteries and Lalibela’s famous rock-hewn churches.
